Summer's Almost Over- Say it ain't SO!!!

There's just less than a month left of vacation before the new school year begins. What can we do with this time to enjoy some vacation time before getting back to the work load that a new school year entails?

How about a trip to the NC Mountains??

Springmaid Mountain in Spruce Pine, NC is a fantastic place to camp, rent a cabin or rent a screened shelter..which is only $30 a night and contains bunks enough for 6! Springmaid Mountain Camp  There are stocked ponds to fish in, hiking, camping by the stream go kayaking or river tubing or spend some time riding a horse. After all that you can take a relaxing hay ride!! Check out their website for more information and other attractions in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC.

This weekend in Spruce Pine there's a Mineral, Gem and Jewelry Festival!! August 1-4.

How about the beach? There's still time to rent a home or hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC, or my favorite beach Emerald Isle Beach, NC!!

Emerald Isle Beach is part of what's called the Crystal Coast!  Head to the beach and enjoy swimming, fishing, boating. Or drive on up the coast towards Atlantic Beach, NC. Halfway there you can stop at the NC Aquarium at Pine Knolls, NC. Keep on driving down to Atlantic Beach to see Fort Macon State Park. The park is home to a Civil War Fort!

Enjoy the rest of your summer. Perhaps I'll see you at one of these attractions!!

Gramma's homeschooling

Let me introduce myself. My name is Carol and I've been homeschooling my grand daughter for 5 1/2 years.

While wanting to homeschool her in kindergarten, my reluctant husband was quite adamant that we NOT do this thing called homeschooling. I went along with him and to our dismay it was the worst thing we could ever have done.

Kindergarten was a disaster at our local school. A school that was once exemplary where my two children had gone without incident had fallen to disrepair and disregard for the children. I went to school with her every day. I had to.. I didn't trust the teacher. She screamed at 5 year olds!! How does that? We both persevered and finally the school year ended.

That was it. We were homeschooling the following September. It was the best thing we could have done for my grands education.

Anyway, I won't go into more detail until the next Blog!! Thanks for reading!
